A recent residential project undertaken for a client located in the remote town of Kinloch Rannoch, Perthshire shows how this was achieved. This particular client sought a comprehensive renewable energy solution, entrusting us with the installation of a number of interlinked systems, which included, an air source heat pump (ASHP), a solar PV system with battery storage, an evacuated tube solar thermal water heating system, and a twin coil cylinder which was seamlessly integrated and capable of harnessing heat from both the heat pump and solar thermal systems to provide plenty of hot water.
The resulting system has granted the client the ability to seamlessly transition from a reliance on heating oil to clean and efficient renewable technologies.
The client’s objective was to harness natural and sustainable energy and convert it into heating, hot water, and electricity for his home. This multi-faceted approach to a renewable project would significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by ending the reliance on oil, whilst delivering excellent cost savings against heating and electricity bills.
The client wanted Easy Heat Systems to install air source heat pumps to generate space heating and hot water for the home. The heat pump would need to be set-up and optimised to work seamlessly, and in tandem, with the solar thermal system to provide the hot water for the property throughout the year.
Integrating ten solar PV panels alongside a thirty evacuated tube solar thermal system on to the roof of an end terrace house required space. Easy Heat Systems would need to liaise with a structural engineer and also oversee the replacement of an old chimney stack to free the space required for both systems to be installed.
The project demanded an intricate examination and precise estimations of the client’s consumption patterns. This analysis through detailed calculations allowed us to size the heating, hot water, and electricity generating systems for optimal efficiency and performance.
With the client residing on-site throughout the development phase, Easy Heat Systems faced the responsibility to swiftly and seamlessly execute the works while minimising any inconveniences for the client.
Tailored renewable systems were meticulously integrated to harmonize with the existing structure of the residence and Easy Heat Systems completed the installation of the infrastructure in alignment with the client’s requirements.
This project’s success was underpinned by a range of contributions from EHS, including:
Comprehensive property survey and assessments were conducted to determine the home’s potential and capacity for accommodating renewable installations.
Precise calculations encompassing heat loss and electricity requirements were undertaken prior to the development phase, informing the necessary scale and specifications of technological components.
Installation of a Vaillant Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) positioned externally to utilise air as a source for both heating and hot water generation.
Installation of a 30x Evacuated Tube solar thermal system to utilise the sun for hot water generation.
Installation of a twin coil hot water cylinder with a capacity of 250Litres, which would be capable of receiving heat from both the heat pump and solar thermal systems.
Installation of a 4kW solar photovoltaic system with 5.2 kWh of battery storage.
Integration of a battery management system meticulously designed to support the battery storage, ensuring optimal efficiency and performance.
